Honoring Grace Hopper - "Nanosecond" Grace Hopper was a computer programming pioneer and has been referred to as the grandmother of COBOL. As a US Navy reserve officer she invented one of the first compiler computer programs in 1952 and essentially taught computers to talk. She later served as a technical advisor to the committee who invented COBOL computer language in 1959.She achieved rank of rear admiral by special presidential appointment and was nicknamed amazing grace. mixed media 8” x 8” Collection of the artist. |
