Margaret invented a shuttle safety device for a malfunctioning loom at age of 10, after witnessing someone get hurt in an accident in a textile mill. More importantly, she later invented the flat bottom paper bag machine which revolutionized the bag industry, however the metal worker who constructed her invention so she could patent it, claimed it was his idea. Margaret had to go to court to prove it was hers and won the court case, and was awarded the patent in 1871. Mixed media, paper bag mounted. 8" by 10" |
