Dr. Patricia E Bath (American 1942 -2019) Dr. Bath was the first African-American female doctor to receive a patent for medical purposes. In 1988, Bath received a patent for the Laserphaco probe to dissolve cataracts quickly and painlessly using laser light. Her invention is now used internationally. When interviewed, she stated that she wanted to be the best at everything. An oil painting is veiled purposely as an extreme example of what one might see before cataract surgery.
