"She Was Famous for Her Desserts" |
Ruth Graves Wakefield was the creator of the famous Nestle toll House chocolate chip cookie. As a dietitian she was famous for her desserts at the toll House Inn in Massachusetts that she owned with her husband. Trying to come up with something new, she broke a bit of Nestle chocolate bars into her cookie batter. The cookie became immensely popular and in World War II these cookies were sent to soldiers overseas. Soon hundreds of soldiers were asking for more. She sold her recipe and the rights to use the doll house name for one dollar and a lifetime supply of Nestle chocolate to the Nestle company. Mixed media (chocolate chip bags). 10" by 10". |
