"Sweet Dreams"

Sarah E. Goode (1855 to 1905)

Sarah E Goode (1855 to 1905)
Sarah was the first African American woman to receive a US patent in 1885. As the owner of a furniture store she solved the problem for customers who wanted more beds for company. She invented a rolltop desk that folded open into a bed. There is a Sarah E Goode stem academy high school in Chicago Illinois, which promotes creativity, inventiveness and using talents for the advancement of humanity.

Another bedtime sunset, (out my window,) is painted and mounted onto a found object, (representing the desk.) A tiny bed (handmade) resting on top.

Mixed media, 5" x 10" x 7 1/4".
Collection of the Artist.
